Villa Praxithea – Traditional Stone Houses in Gavalochori

Villa Praxithea is a small traditional stone complex in the heart of Gavalochori, an authentic Cretan village in the Apokoronas region of Chania. It consists of two independent accommodations, Ontas by Praxithea and Tholos by Praxithea, and can host up to 8 guests in total.

When Villa Praxithea is booked as a whole, guests enjoy exclusive use of the entire property, the swimming pool and the large fully equipped kitchen.

It is an ideal choice for families, groups of friends or two families travelling together who want to stay close while still enjoying independent spaces within the same property.

Ontas by Praxithea accommodates up to 5 guests and features two bedrooms, a private bathroom, a private kitchenette and a private terrace with a table and comfortable seating.

Tholos by Praxithea accommodates up to 3 guests and offers a private living space, private bathroom and private kitchenette.

Both stone houses retain the traditional character of Cretan architecture, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere that blends naturally with the historic surroundings of Gavalochori.

Private pool and shared facilities

When the entire Villa Praxithea is booked, the swimming pool, large fully equipped kitchen, outdoor shower and pool WC are reserved exclusively for the guests of the villa.

The large kitchen provides an additional space where families and groups can prepare meals and spend time together, while the swimming pool offers a relaxing setting for enjoying the Cretan sunshine.

If Ontas and Tholos are booked separately, the swimming pool and large kitchen are shared between the guests of the two accommodations.

Experience Gavalochori

One of Villa Praxithea’s greatest advantages is its location. The property is situated within Gavalochori, allowing guests to explore the village on foot.

Traditional tavernas, cafés, a bakery, mini market and shops selling local products can all be found within a short walking distance.

Gavalochori has preserved much of its traditional and historic character, with stone houses, peaceful streets and small village squares. Visitors can discover the Folklore Museum, the Venetian Wells, the old olive mill and other landmarks connected to the history and everyday life of the village.

The local community also organises activities from time to time, including walking events, yoga sessions and other group activities, giving visitors the opportunity to experience the area and local way of life in a more authentic way.

Nearby villages and beaches

The traditional village of Vamos is approximately 2 km away and offers additional choices for restaurants, cafés and leisurely walks.

Almyrida, approximately 4 km away, has a sandy beach, calm waters, seaside tavernas and cafés. It is ideal for families and relaxed swimming, while also offering several options for water sports.

Kalyves, around 7–8 km from the property, offers a larger organised beach together with a wide selection of restaurants and cafés by the sea.

Ombros Gialos, approximately 8 km away, is a striking natural swimming spot known for its rocky landscape and exceptionally clear waters.

The city of Chania is approximately 30 km away, making it easy to visit the Old Town, Venetian Harbour, restaurants, shops and vibrant city atmosphere before returning to the peaceful surroundings of Gavalochori.
